Dictionary) Pronunciation:
'ol-m&-"nak, 'al-m&-"nak
Etymology: Middle English, almenak, from Arabic al-manAkh n. 1) a
publication containing astronomical and meterological data for a given
year and often including a miscellany of other information 2) a
usually annual publication containing statistical, tabular, and general
information

| HISTORY OF THE ALMANAC The two most famous
versions are the Poor
Richard's Almanack written by Benjamin
Franklin from the years 1733-1758 and the Old
Farmer's Almanac that is still produced annually by Yankee
Publishing, Inc. Both almanacs expanded to include poetry,
quotes, farming, gardening, sports, fashion, recipes, anecdotes, cures
for illnesses, and samplings from other general areas.
